Pokémon Go, Harry Potter: Niantic wants to improve multiplayer in augmented reality

By offering the startup Escher Reality, Niantic, the studio behind Pokémon Go, intends to make the multiplayer augmented reality in another dimension.

Niantic continues to prepare for the post Pokémon Go. While the title continues its regular updates despite its alleged obsolescence, the studio is already working on a future mobile game in augmented reality (AR) in the universe of Harry Potter - which could offer him a success equivalent to, or even superior to that of his previous standard-bearer - the studio has made a particularly strategic acquisition.

By offering the startup Escher Reality, Niantic clearly means its intention to develop the multiplayer aspect of its future productions. If Pokémon Go is based on interactions with other trainers, the title is rather limited in this area since they do not appear visually on your smartphone screen. You do not see them for example not to catch a Pokémon directly in front of you: the interaction is done in parallel, during the conquest of an arena for example.

The acquisition of Escher Reality aims precisely for Niantic, to reinforce this immersion and this direct interactivity between the players, in the manner of a MMORPG in augmented reality, with the least possible latency time possible. And to drive the rapid growth of this type of solution, Niantic is preparing to make its multi-platform RA tools available to developers later this year. Escher Reality, for its part, welcomes this acquisition: "Our long-term vision is to create RA experiences shared by millions of people around the world to better realize its impact in the future. "
